A 27-year-old woman tragically died after allegedly choking on a piece of chicken while dining at a resort in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. She had checked into the resort with her boyfriend on May 23, and the incident occurred during dinner, police said.
According to initial reports, the woman began to gasp for breath shortly after taking a bite of food. She collapsed at the table and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. A case of accidental death has been registered.
Inspector Vijaya Goswami of Kelwa police station confirmed that the woman appeared to have choked on chicken, but authorities are awaiting a post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death. “We are treating it as an accidental death, but further investigation will clarify whether any negligence or external factors were involved,” the officer said.
The police have launched a probe to rule out foul play and are examining all possible angles, including statements from the boyfriend and resort staff. The final conclusion will depend on the autopsy results, expected in the coming days.
In a separate and unrelated incident, a man in Tamil Nadu died last month after choking on a live fish while fishing in a lake. These back-to-back choking-related deaths have sparked discussions around food safety and first-aid awareness.
